Description
Gibson's Custom Shop Historic Reissue 1942 Banner Southern Jumbo revives the legendary tone and aesthetics of Gibson's pre-war era. Handcrafted with premium tonewoods including a thermally aged Adirondack red spruce top and rosewood back and sides, this acoustic guitar sings with a bold, punchy tone suited for blues, rock, and country. The 1.77" nut width and vintage styling pay homage to Gibson's original Southern Jumbo design from the 1940s.
Thermally Aged Tonewoods for a Vintage Voice
The 1942 Banner Southern Jumbo's Adirondack red spruce top is thermally aged to replicate the tonal qualities of vintage wood. When combined with rosewood back and sides, the result is a robust tone with emphasized midrange and bass frequencies. The aging process also gives the spruce top a rich, burnished hue reminiscent of pre-war Gibsons.
Vintage-Accurate Specs and Styling
From the "Only a Gibson is Good Enough" banner logo to the open-back tuners, multi-ply binding, and mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays, the 1942 Banner Southern Jumbo is a tribute to Gibson's golden era of craftsmanship. The 1.77" nut width provides ample string spacing for complex chords and fingerpicking styles. An open-slot bridge and bone nut and saddle deliver vintage-style tone and sustain.
Versatile Tone for Multiple Genres
With its bold and balanced tone, the 1942 Banner Southern Jumbo handles a variety of musical styles with ease. Strum first-position chords for folk and country or pick bluesy lead lines. The jumbo body produces a full, rounded tone that cuts through a mix while recording. Whether at home, on stage, or in the studio, the 1942 Banner Southern Jumbo is a versatile acoustic guitar ready to be played.
